Sharia ruling regarding pregnancy is that husband must support his wife during pregnancy according to his financial capacity. For those who are rich, the husband must negotiate with his wife as soon as she is confirmed pregnancy how much he is going to give her for carrying his baby per month or per the entire period of pregnancy. This kind of payment to the wife does include daily expenses before marriage, this payment is her personal income, she can use it the way she wants, she help her family in need of financial help, she can make Hajj or Umra with his money, she has to pay Zakat from this money because its earning for her.
Those who are not rich, should pay his wife during pregnancy according to his means as he may afford.
Responsibilities of husband during pregnancy
- Husband must negotiate with his wife how much is going to pay her for carrying his child, whatever agreed must be written and signed, this becomes a must paid to her from earnings of her husband. If death happens to Him, This kind of money, and if there is balance on Mahr ( Mandatory Dowry) is counted as a debt that is cleared before burial.
- Staying with his wife where ever he is staying. Its not permissible for the husband to stay in different place while his wife stay in different place during pregnancy, he must stay with her to support her, comfort her and be there when ever she needs him.
- In case of journey for work, or jailed for some reasons,Husband must ask her the best way to choose a person to act in the position of the husband, she may choose to go and stay by her family, she may choose to stay in her home even if the husband is away but bring her family member to stay with her, husband is not allowed to force her to accept to stay with his family member she does not want.
