Zakatul Fitr
Zakatul Fitr: Zakat means cleansing and Fitr means nature, so Zakatul Fitr means “cleansing your nature” because fasting is stopping from eating, drinking, visiting wife for pleasure between married couple during day until sunset, then eat e, drink and have visit wife entire night until before dawn and before Fajr Salah.
So Human nature Can not keep fasting exactly as its supposed to be, therefore its compulsory to give 2.5 kilograms of measurements from foods eaten often during fasting the holy month of Ramadan for every head of family members including unborn baby still in the womb of its mother on the following conditions:
- This Zakat must be paid with in the Month of Ramadan for example starting second Ten days until last day of fasting but not exceed Eid Prayer. meaning as soon as Eid Al-Fitri Congregation is finished, no Zakat Al-fitri anything that is paid is not considered Zakatul fitr But Sadaqt as we shall see. so you Must pay your with in prescribed time as mentioned here that during holy Month of Ramadan until Morning before Salatul Eid Al-fitr.
- Must be paid from only Halaal foods meaning permissible foods and drinks.
- Must be paid from foods acquired through Halaal means, not from stolen or taken by force foods and drinks.
- Must be a Muslim.
- Must Have means.
Notice: If you have been eating rice, flour, maize meal, meat, beans, sugar, in the holy month of Ramadan, choose one of those foods and give 2.5 kilograms for each head of your family members.
Family members means people under your care including house maids, garden cleaners, wife(s) Children, parents, any one under your care stays in the same house or stays in different location.
For example if you choose to give Zakatul Fitr from rice, you must count how many people you have been feeding in your care , if the number is ten people including the unborn baby in the Womb, that means you pay 2.5X10= 25 Kilograms of rice is your zakat.
Conversion of food into Money
Its Permissible in Sharia give your 2.5 Kilograms of rice as your Zakatul Fitr in money form. if 1 kilo of rice is R 20 that means your Zakatul fitr per head is 20X2.5= R50. R 50×10= R 500 five hundred is your Zakatul fitr if you have ten people min your care including your self.
Ruling of Zakatul Fitr
Zakatul fitr is aimed at feeding those in need on the day of Eid Al-Fitr. Therefore , its ruled that, for the person intending to pay Zakatul Fitr must first cover expenses of feeding His family on Eid day, and then Pay Zakatul Fitr. and if you do not have all that is required for you to pay, give what you have afforded after the Eid expenses of your Family. and if you do not have what to pay but you manage to cover your family then its ok, do not be among those who take Zakatul Fitr meant for poor yet they can afford as we see it happening. if your among those who do not have what to give and con not afford family expenses of Eid day on feeding, then Contact those in charge of collecting Zakatul fitr to register your name and include among the needy.
