In 1900, Uganda under British protectorate abolished Islam that lead to a holy war fought between Christians in support of ruling Buganda King and Muslims among Baganda tribe. This holy war lead to the exile of the leader of Baganda Muslims who was in the line of royal family prince Nuhu Mbogo a brother King Muteesa II children of King Mwanga who was a christian.

The inheritance of the king was conditioned to Christianity therefore whoever embraced Islam in the royal family was disqualified from becoming the King of Buganda Kingdom, that lead to formation another leadership of Muslim Community of Buganda Kingdom, and their king was Prince Nuhun Mobogo after he Embraced Islam together with family of previously a Muslim King of Buganda Kingdom called Kalema.

Sheikh Shauib was a son of Is-haq Bakiika who was a member of royal family in charge of choosing the next King. when Islam was introduced to Buganda Kingdom, Sheikh Shuaib was one of the royals who embraced Islam.

Formation of Uganda Jamatel Islam (UJI)

After 1900 there was political developments that took place including the British government signing land agreement with Britain, the British protectorate of Uganda passed a law of land ordinance in allowed religions to establish their churches as A trust incorporated as a land title.

Upon passing this law, Sheikh Shuaib hired a british lawyer who drafted a constitution as a founding document of the first Islamic Organisation called Uganda Jamatel Islam Kampala that was incorporated in October 1930.

During that Time Sheikh Shuaib had initiated an Islamic Institute that was teaching scholars of Islam at Kawempe , Kampala, where the first formal Islamic Institute was founded and He started Graduating Sheikhs as qualified leaders of Islam, and he appointed them to serve in the different regions of Uganda.

Sheikh Shuaib as the principle of the first Islamic Institute, was working together with prince Nuhu Mbogo who was the leader of Islam during that time, this partnership was under the operations of Uganda Jamatel Islam that lead to the building of Kibuli Mosque as the Headquarter of Islam In Uganda under the leadership of Prince Nuhu Mbogo who was inherited by his son Prince Badru Kangulu who was inherited by his son Prince Qassin Nakibinge as the current leader of Kibuli Muslim administration of Buganda Kingdom.

While Sheikh Continued with Uganda Jamatel Islam and He established the AIslamic administration of Muslim affairs by appointing district and regional leaders known as District Qadhi and leader of Twale ( County). this same administration lead to building of differentn Msoques and schools in Islam which are operating until today.

Upon the formation of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council as Umbrella body of Muslim affairs administration in Uganda, Sheikh Shuaib became the first Grand Mufti of Uganda.

Every student who was graduated , was issues a certificate from Uganda Jamatel Islam that promoted them to the community to serve as Leaders of Islam.
