Terminologies of Tariqa that has developed over the years that describe a certain office of authority, level of spirituality, services and Practices

Dhikru or Dhikrullah

This means Extra ordinary remembrance of Allah Subhanahu Wataal with in Limits of Sharia. Saying “Subhanallah Al-hamdu-lillah, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha Illa Llah, La Hawla wala Quwata Illa Billah, Hasbuna llahu wa Ni’mal Wakil”  and more as known in Sharia of Islam and Tariqa.

Istighaar

This is asking Allah Subhanahu Wataala for forgiveness saying” Astaghful Llah Al-Adhim ladhee Laa Ilaaha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyum Wa Atub Ilaih

Murid

Murid is a person who is initiate into a particular Tariqa by the person with authority to do so.

Murshid

Murshid is the teacher who guides Murids regarding Tariqa and monitor their spiritual progress, this is also called spiritual master. Murid is a Man while a woman is called Muridat.

Khalifah

Is the person with Authority to initiate any other individual into his Tariqa. A Woman of the same Authority is called Khalifat

Sufi

Sufi is a word used to mean a person who practices Tariqa. can either be a student or a teacher.

Daairat

Daairat Means gathering of Murids, Murshid, Khulafaau for remembrance of Allah Subhanahu Wataala that can happen anytime.

Ziyaara

This gathering of Murshid, Murids, Khulafau for remembrance of Allah Subhahanahu Watala in commemoration to late Murid who might have been a Murshid, Khalifah or senior Murid that happens only once a year on a particular date.

Wadhifa

Routine readings of Murid in Remembrance of Allah Subhanahu Wataala with intention of spiritual development as prescribed by his or her Murshid or Khalifah.

Sheikh

Sheikh is the observer of teachings and practices of Tariqa by Murshid, Khalifas, Murids with in limits of Sharia.

Aba Murid

Aba Murid Means senior Murid who is leader of all Murids.

Zawiya

Zawiya is the name given to a building with similar functions of a Masjid but also for services and Practices of Tariqa. Its the Office of the Khalifah, or Murshid or Sheikh,a nd a gathering place for Murids and Muridaat.

Safinat

A booklet of written words of wisdom of Tariqa for Daairat, Ziyaarat, Wadhifa, etc.

Qasida

Name of a written words of wisdom recited as a poem or a song

Ijaazat

Ijaazat means authorization of a person to do an Authoritative work such us initiating a new murid in Tariqa. or the initiation of a person into Tariqa

Biat

Biat means allegiance of a new Person becoming a murid he or she gives to obey upon being given Ijaazat.
